Latinas in Education and Leadership
Why is there a misrepresentation of Latina women within STEM fields? What is the importance of mentoring and role models for Latinas? Why are Latina women enrolling at four-year institutions at a higher rate than Latino men? More importantly, how can we address these topics which are frequently omitted in academia? How can we initiate these dialogues back to our communities? Join the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Mujeres, and SHPE for an interactive discussion surrounding the role of Latina women in higher education and leadership, and its importance in the advancement of the Latino community as a whole.

We will interrogate our own understanding of the stop-and-frisk policy, which often leaves out the Latin@ Queer and Transgender identities that are disproportionately affected by the law. Join us as we discuss immigration issues and the experience of Latinos in New York City--the home to many cultures, ethnicities, and intersecting identities.
